{"id":27521,"date":"2021-01-10T19:08:45","date_gmt":"2021-01-10T18:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=27521"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:23:55","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:23:55","slug":"traders-applaud-nigeria-over-inauguration-of-afcfta-secretariat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/traders-applaud-nigeria-over-inauguration-of-afcfta-secretariat\/","title":{"rendered":"Traders applaud Nigeria over inauguration of AfCFTA secretariat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Chris Ndibe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN) has commended Nigeria for its roles in the inauguration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat in Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The President of MATAN, Alhaji Jamilu Abbas, gave the commendation in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Abbas said the leading role played by Nigeria in ensuring the smooth take-off of the AfCFTA was impressive and commendable.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He noted that many countries on the continent were looking up to Nigeria being the most populous nation and the biggest economy, for the success of the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He urged indigenous producers and owners of small and medium businesses to brace up and produce commodities to be sold in other countries to boost Nigeria\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The president, however, called for harmonisation of retail and investment laws to prevent tensions among member countries.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Abbas also enjoined members of his association to take advantage of the initiative to boost their businesses and the national economy.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the AfCFTA&nbsp; founded in 2018, with 54 participating African countries commenced trade officially in Jan 1.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The free-trade area is the largest in the world in terms of the number of participating countries since the formation of the World Trade.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-27521\" data-postid=\"27521\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-27521 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Chris Ndibe The Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN) has commended Nigeria for its roles in the inauguration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat in Ghana.
