{"id":25600,"date":"2020-10-09T13:16:35","date_gmt":"2020-10-09T12:16:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=25600"},"modified":"2020-10-09T13:16:35","modified_gmt":"2020-10-09T12:16:35","slug":"onne-sea-port-fetches-n13bln-to-customs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/onne-sea-port-fetches-n13bln-to-customs\/","title":{"rendered":"Onne sea port fetches N13bln to Customs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Tanko Mohammed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Nigeria Customs Service, Area II Command, Onne Port, Rivers, has generated more than N13.11 billion in September, highest revenue from the port in 37 years.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>A statement issued in Port Harcourt by the command\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Ifeoma Ojekwu on Friday, quoted the Controller of the command, Mr Auwal Mohammed, to have described the figure as the highest in 37 years of custom\u2019s operations in the port.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mohammed stated that the command generated the revenue by putting in place robust mechanisms to reduce smuggling and duty evasion in the port.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe over N13.11 billion generated in the month of September is the first month scorecard of the Customs Area II Command, Onne Port since I took office on Sept. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe revenue generation is the highest monthly revenue generated in the command since the command\u2019s creation over 37 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn addition, the feat is a combination of efforts by my very diligent officers and men, who are unrelenting in the discharge of their duties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mohammed said the command recorded the feat by processing a total of 18,085 metric tonnes of export activities within the period.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe area command handled export activities with Free On-Board (FOB) with value of 6.441 million dollars (N2.944 billion) while N10.595 million was collected as NESS.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlso, in anti-smuggling activities, the command seized 13 containers containing 400 bundles of used tyres, 100 pieces of motor radiators and 264 logs of raw hard wood.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cOthers are 100 pieces of car fans and four units of bed trailer trucks with total Duty Paid Value of N99.917 million in September,\u201d Mohammed said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The controller assured that efforts would be redoubled to surpass the feat.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>According to him, the command is focused on purging all forms of leakages in the port to further generate more revenue for the Federal Government.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhere shortfalls are detected, I will ensure uncompromising recovery through \u201cDemand Notice\u2019\u2019 to prevent revenue losses.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to make this command a no go area for perpetrators of smuggling, concealment, duty evasion and other forms of illegality.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will achieve this by seizing all illegally imported and prohibited goods; arrest the perpetrators and prosecute them in accordance with the Customs and Excise Management Act,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mohammed assured the handover of suspects whose offences fall under the purview of other government regulatory and enforcement agencies for investigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Tanko Mohammed The Nigeria Customs Service, Area II Command, Onne Port, Rivers, has generated more than N13.11 billion in September, highest revenue from the port in 37 years.
