text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nNigeria\u2019s Deputy President of the Senate,<br \/>\n Ike Ekweremadu, said respite was coming the way of the Nigerian<br \/>\nbusiness community in Ghana.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThe government of the West African<br \/>\ncountry has promised to reconsider its policy on foreign businesses,<br \/>\nfollowing his intervention.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nEkweremadu said the implementation of the<br \/>\n policy had led to the shutting of over 400 shops owned by Nigerians in<br \/>\nthe Ashanti Region of Ghana.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThe lawmaker, who is a former Speaker of<br \/>\nthe Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States, gave<br \/>\nthe indication on his Facebook page, following his discussions with the<br \/>\nRegional Minister of the Ashanti Region, Simon<br \/>\n Osei-Mensah.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThe Government of Ghana in August this<br \/>\nyear ordered the sealing off of over 400 shops belonging to Nigerians at<br \/>\n the expiry of an eviction order issued by the Ministry of Trade.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nEkweremadu noted that the freedom of the<br \/>\npeoples of the sub-region to ply their trades in any part of West Africa<br \/>\n was central to the prosperity of ECOWAS.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nHe said, \u201cI spoke with the Regional<br \/>\nMinister of Ashanti, Ghana, my brother and former deputy at the ECOWAS<br \/>\nParliament, Simon Osei-Mensah, over the weekend on the pains of the<br \/>\nNigerian business community in the Ashanti Region of<br \/>\n Ghana on the sealing off of over 400 Nigerian-owned shops in Ghana,<br \/>\nespecially in Kumasi.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cWe shared thoughts on the need to uphold<br \/>\n the spirit and letters of the various ECOWAS Protocols as well as the<br \/>\npursuit of the ECOWAS Vision 2020, which aims at a transition from an<br \/>\nECOWAS of states to ECOWAS of peoples.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cOsei-Mensah assured me of the safety of<br \/>\nNigerian businesses and people in Ghana, noting that he would personally<br \/>\n take up the matter with the authorities to ensure that the shops were<br \/>\nreopened immediately.\u201d<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nEkweremadu added, \u201cNigeria and Ghana have<br \/>\n come a long way and it is my hope that we will continue to nurture this<br \/>\n relationship for the mutual benefit of our respective countries.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cMeanwhile, I am in touch with the<br \/>\nNigerian business community in Ghana, including the National President,<br \/>\nNigerian Union of Traders Associations, Ghana, Mr Chukwuemeka Nnaji, and<br \/>\n I have urged them to remain calm, law-abiding<br \/>\n and continue to live in peace with their hosts in the spirit of African<br \/>\n and ECOWAS brotherhood.\u201d<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nIn the meantime, the Petroleum and<br \/>\nNatural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has highlighted the need<br \/>\n to reform the nation\u2019s oil and gas industry in a bid to ensure economic<br \/>\n development.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nPENGASSAN, in its Independence Day<br \/>\nmessage to Nigerians, said the government must resolve to address the<br \/>\ngaps in the legal framework guiding operations and activities in the oil<br \/>\n and gas industry through the passage of the Petroleum<br \/>\n Industry Bill.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;
