{"id":22007,"date":"2020-04-21T14:19:50","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T13:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=22007"},"modified":"2020-04-21T14:19:50","modified_gmt":"2020-04-21T13:19:50","slug":"branson-wants-assistance-to-virgin-airlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/branson-wants-assistance-to-virgin-airlines\/","title":{"rendered":"Branson wants assistance to Virgin airlines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By DPA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p>British entrepreneur Richard Branson says his Virgin airlines need government financial support if they are to survive the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Branson promised to do everything he could to keep his flagship Virgin Atlantic operating.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut we will need government support to achieve that in the face of the severe uncertainty surrounding travel today and not knowing how long the planes will be grounded for.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis would be in the form of a commercial loan \u2013 it wouldn\u2019t be free money and the airline would pay it back,\u201d he wrote in an open letter to Virgin staff.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He noted that low-cost airline easyJet had secured a loan of 600 million pounds (746 million dollars).<\/p>\n\n\n<p>On Friday, the Financial Times reported that the government had asked Virgin Atlantic to resubmit a request for a 500-million-pound bailout package, feeling the airline had not shown that it had explored other options for extra funding.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Australian broadcaster ABC had said that Virgin Australia is facing insolvency and seeking a bailout of 1.4 billion Australian dollars (890 million dollars).<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Branson said: \u201cVirgin Australia is fighting to survive and needs support to get through this catastrophic global crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe reality of this unprecedented crisis is that many airlines around the world need government support and many have already received it.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWithout it there won\u2019t be any competition left and hundreds of thousands more jobs will be lost, along with critical connectivity and huge economic value.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By DPA British entrepreneur Richard Branson says his Virgin airlines need government financial support if they are to survive the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry.
