As the coronavirus rages across Nigeria, some employees in the private sector are lamenting the hardship brought about by the current restrictions as many employers have adopted a \u201d no work no pay policy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n
Some of the workers expressed dissatisfaction with the policy considering the hardship the current restrictions had imposed on Nigerians.<\/p>\n\n\n
Many small and medium enterprises have shut down operations while only those engaged in essential services are rendering services to customers.<\/p>\n\n\n
Some businesses have been forced to reduce their workforce in compliance with the social distancing directive, resulting in compulsory leave without pay for staff.<\/p>\n\n\n
Mr Adeolu Adepegba, who works in a small scale enterprise, said he was not sure he would still have a job after the lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cMy employer has not even paid my salary for March and now that the restrictions are still on, I don\u2019t think I still have a job again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n
Tolu Fatunga, who works with an insurance company, said she had not been paid salary since the restrictions first began.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t foresee this incident so I was not prepared financially. I have been managing to survive,\u201d Fatunga said.<\/p>\n\n\n
At Link Majestic B2 Suite, Oluyole, the Deputy General Manager, Mrs Esther Agbor, said sales were very low.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cWe observe safety protocols such as hand washing points provided at different locations within the hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cWe have only recorded just one or two check-ins in a week,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n
