He defined<br \/>\nan industrial park as an area zoned and planned for the purpose of industrial<br \/>\ndevelopment, further explaining that the park is one form of special economic<br \/>\nzone (SEZ).<\/p>\n<p>Dr Meru described an SEZ as selected geographical area which is provided<br \/>\nwith special business environment to promote priority economic activities,<br \/>\nadding that the SEZ may include industrial parks, Export Processing Zones, free<br \/>\ntrade zones, free ports, tourist parks, science and technological parks.<\/p>\n<p>The consultant said Ethiopia, Kenya and Rwanda have made significant<br \/>\neconomic gains by making good use of economic processing zones. Outside Africa,<br \/>\nhe named China as the country, which he said has used the zones to make<br \/>\neconomic wonders within three decades.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that since l978, China has focused on producing and exporting<br \/>\nproducts from EPZs, turning itself into a world economic giant. \u201cChina has made<br \/>\nmiracles in the world of industries. It has made huge development strides using<br \/>\nindustries. In 2010 Chinese economy was declared the second largest economy in<br \/>\nthe world,\u201d he said.
