UN, NASME strengthen ties to promote women entrepreneurship

The Nation Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) and the UN Women have agreed to strengthen collaborations towards promoting women entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

The agreement was reached between Ms Comfort Lamptey, The Country Representative, United Nations Women and the Council of NASME in a virtual meeting held in Abuja.

Lamptey said that the UN Women was ready and eager to work with NASME.

The National President of NASME, Dr Abdulrashid Yerima, said that the association intended to deepen the already established cordial relationship with the UN Women.

While expecting more UN involvement in NASME activities, Yerima emphasised the importance of paying more attention to the development of youth and women.

According to him, NASME is aware of the fact that the world has paid concentrated attention to youth and women development.

“Hence the leadership of our association inaugurated NASME Women’s wing on Sept. 25, 2019 in Abuja.

“As a major stakeholder in the MSME sector of the Nigerian economy, our association has long recorgnised the importance of women in the Nigerian economy.

“And our women are being strategically positioned for local and international collaborations,’’ Yerima said.

While seeking technical support from UN Women, Yerima said that NASME would be celebrating the International Women’s Day with a summit themed “Break the Bias’’ and the African MSME Summit in October 2022.

He said that the event scheduled for March 15, 2022 in Lagos, would attract 500 women participants.
