NEPZA receives C of O for textiles, garments park

The Katsina state government has issued a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), for the site of textiles and garment park in Funtua.
Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, the Managing Director of NEPZA received the C of O on Tuesday in Abuja from the Director-General, Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA), Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur.
Adesugba, while receiving the certificate for the 277 hectares of land said the park was part of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) project approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Prof. Adesoji Adesugba stated that about 500 million naira had already been expended on the Textiles and Garment Park project being located in Funtua, Katsina State.
According to him, the project which will be completed in the next 18 months will generate over 10,000 direct and 60,000 indirect jobs in the state while plans are also underway to establish Medical Economic Zones in the state.
Adesugba who noted that FEC had already approved two billion naira for the project advised other State Governments to key into the project to enhance national economic development.
The NEPZA boss however identified SEZs as vital to industrialisation and economic development adding that arrangements had also been concluded to establish the Zones in about ten States of the Federation.
Earlier, the Director General, Investment Promotion Agency, Katsina State, Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur commended NEPZA for the establishment of the Textiles and Garment Park in the State.
Alhaji Tukur expressed the hope that the project would further boost economic activities in the State
In a remark, Dr Osuji Otu, UNIDO National Programme Officer, said the organization already had master plan to support the park development and focused on the development of agric business and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
According to him, it will provide policy direction to Katsina State Government towards realising the objectives of the project.
