Plan to protect power facilities underway -Minister

Abuja, Dec 23, 2023: Minister of Power, Mr  Adebayo Adelabu says comprehensive plan to protect power facilities would soon be put in place to stop vandalism.

Mrs Ndidi Mbah, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN’S) General Manager Public Affairs said in Abuja on Friday that the minister was reacting to the incident of  vandalisation of the company’s tower in Yobe State.

 Mbah said that  TCN tower T372   around Katsaita Village in Yobe State were affected, bringing down the 330 Kilo Volt (KV) transmission tower which pulled down tower T373 along the same transmission line route on Thursday.

She said the incident, which took place at about 9.18pm  caused the failure of power supply to parts of the Yobe and Borno States.

According to him,  a comprehensive plan to protect power facilities would soon be unveiled.

”We are also working on an appropriate legislation to tackle the menace of vandalism,” he said.

 Adelabu appealed to these set of Nigerians  to stop the act of deliberate sabotage that could hinder  government’s effort in providing regular electricity supply to Nigerians.

He said “we should not continue to be our own worst enemy.

Mbah said that TCN  strongly condemned the incident while expressing regrets the inconvenience caused to the government and people of Yobe and Borno States

She said that the company had pledged to do all that is possible to quickly re-erect the towers to restore power supply to the affected areas.

”We are once again making an urgent appeal to host communities to collaborate with TCN in the fight against vandalism and the necessary preservation of power infrastructure,” he said.
