Asaba, Aug. 1, 2023: Rice Farmer and former Vice President of
Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA) have lauded President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to address the nation over the hardship being experienced by Nigerians over fuel subsidy removal.
Mr Raymos Guanah, Rice Farmer in Delta, commended the president for taking the pain to address Nigerians again.
He , said, ” it is a clear indication that Mr President is ready for governance and this will rekindle the hope of Nigerians.”
Guanah, a former Commissioner for Lands in Delta while reacting the President’s speech on Tuesday in Asaba said: ”President Tinubu spoke as someone who is prepared and has information on what to do and how to go about it.’’
”He removed subsidy for petro, in his address to the nation on Monday night, he promised to make immediate provision for grains to be released.”
”He also talked about making provision for compressed gas vehicles to ease the transport problems of Nigerians.
”He also promised to make provision for fertilizer for farmers and I am happy that he decided to concentrate on cassava, rice and wheat.
”Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were not left out as provision was also made for them as well as making education more affordable to Nigerians,” he said.
Guanah, also a former Commissioner in Delta, added that,” it was clear from the speech of Mr President that he knows his onions and he is ready for governance.
”I am convinced that with President Tinubu, Nigeria will get back to it’s position of strength where we can feed ourselves.
Guanah however, advised President Tinubu’s administration to make provision for tractorisation, adding that companies should be set up to process most of our farm products that go bad.
”Every senatorial districts in the country should be encouraged to concentrate on the areas that they have strength/advantage.
He also advised the present administration to show interest in aquaculture, bee farming, mushroom cultivation.
According to him, mushrooms is a very healthy vegetable that can act as alternative to meat, but the awareness is low in Nigeria.
Also, former Vice President of the Nigerian Statistical Association, Dr Fidelis Adaka, said that the removal of fuel subsidy is a move in the right direction.
Adaka however, advised that the our refineries should be repaired, adding that this would help to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on Nigerians.
”There is also need to work on our roads as well as provide railway facilities to carry goods and services to all part of the country,” he said.
Adaka who is also the Secretary General, Association of Justices of Peace in Delta also stressed the need we need for equity, peace and justice on the part of government.
