China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on Tuesday issued a plan for the development of bioeconomy during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), reported Economic Information Daily on Wednesday.
It is the first time that China has released such a plan focusing on developing bio-medicine, bio-agriculture, biomass substitution and bio-safety. Under the plan, China would see an increase in the total scale of bioeconomy by 2025.
Wang Xiang, a senior official with NDRC, said that based on the protection, development, allocation and use of biological resources, the plan would systematically promote the extensive penetration of life science and biotechnology into medicine, health, agriculture, energy, environmental protection and other fields of the national economy.
Xiang said that it would also speed up the construction of a modern biological industry system, and lay a solid foundation for the rapid and healthy development of biological economy.
