Nigeria, FAO to drive agro-business  

Nigeria and Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAOUN) have resolved to strengthen their cooperation to boost agro-business in the country.  

The Minister, Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Adeniyi Adebayo, stated during a visit by the Representative of Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAOUN) in Nigeria and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Mr. Fred Kafeero in Abuja.  

Adebayo noted that the ministry would continue to support the organisation to boost trade in agricultural products, create jobs, fight hunger and malnutrition and ensure food security in the country and other ECOWAS members, adding the ministry will work with FAOUN to achieve its mandate.  

Earlier, the Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAOUN) in Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Fred Kafeero stated that the purpose of his visit to the ministry is to strengthen cooperation through sustainable collaboration with all relevant stakeholders in the agricultural value chain.  

He stated that the Ministry is adding value to the activities of FAO by ensuring that agriculture contributes significantly to the national growth of the economy.
