The Chairman Presidential Committee on Fertilizer and Gov. of Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar, on Saturday in Benin said that says there is enough production of fertiliser in the country.
Abubakar stated while addressing journalists at the residence of his Edo counterpart, Gov. Godwin Obaseki when he paid him a visit.
He said that government is now devising new ways of getting same to rural communities at affordable prices.
He noted that the current policies in place of fertiliser blending plants have been opened across the country with enough stock for the past two years, which the government would fashion out ways to get to rural farmers at subsidized cost.
According to him, “Am here to attend a general today and need to visit the governor of the State.
“Fertilizers has been available in the last two years, and still available now and I know of fertilizers blending plant that have stock and they could not sell.
“In the villages sometimes If theirs is no proper distribution it’s really difficult more especially the Presidential fertilizer initiative peg margin for the distribution is small so that we can sell to the farmers at cheaper price so distributors don’t want to distribute.
“We are working hard to make sure fertilizers are made available for the next season”, he said.
On his part, Gov. Godwin Obaseki praised his Jigawa state counterpart for his role in ensuring local blending of fertiliser was reviewed across the country.
Obaseki said that the Auchi fertiliser plant revived, and assured that the governor Abubakar was working with all stakeholders in ensuring the product gets to rural farmers.
He praised his Jigawa state counterpart for always speaking on the need to diversify the economy noting that though it takes time to diversify an economy, but it is a journey Nigeria must take to strengthen her economy.
