Islamic bank supports Kano with N29.7m to upgrade grains market

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) supported Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), has awarded contract worth N29, 775, 000, for the upgrade of Dawanau International Grains Market.

The project Communication Specialist, Mr Ameen Yassar, made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday in Kano.

Yassar said that the Project Coordinator, Malam Ibrahim Garba, revealed that during the formal handing over of the market to Akam Consultant Limited, the company engaged in project’s designing and supervision services.

He quoted Garba as saying that the contract would include construction of drainages, main roads, secondary access roads and electrification.

Others were, provision of toilet facilities, Market Information System, Police Outpost, Mosque, offices and conference room, among others.

“The intervention will help to standardise the physical outlook of the market and promote ease of doing business, thereby attracting more patronage for the market, among other advantages,” he said

The Caretaker Chairman, Dawanau Market Association, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Ahmad, commended IsDB and KSADP for the intervention which would change the face of the market for good.

The communication specialist also revealed that KSADP has awarded another contract for the upgrade of five cattle markets in the state.

According to him, the contract was awarded to Emwai Consult Limited, at the cost of N22, 876, 525. 75.

He listed the markets to include that of Danbatta, Wudil, Gwarzo, Falgore and Dunbulum.

“That will assist to reduce loss of value in marketed animals, including reduction of mortality during transportation,” he said.
