Nigeria wins second term on global open government partnership community

Nigeria has been re-elected for a second term of three years on the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Steering Community, the National Coordinator of OGP, Dr Anne Nzegwu, has announced.
Nzegwu, who disclosed this at the third quarter, 2021 OGP Technical Working Group meeting in Abuja, on Monday, said the re-election takes effect as from Oct. 1, 2021.
She said that OGP’s commitment to ensuring that civil society was aware of the internal mechanisms and objectives of the State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) programme for results was sacrosanct, as demonstrated by its recent efforts, which would continue.
“In a related development, the Global Steering Committee is organising the tenth year anniversary of the OGP and has requested for OGP implementing countries to identify their most impactful commitment under NAP one for award consideration.
“The governance and leadership committee has set up a 12-man committee, who worked on Nigeria’s entry for the award to be announced at the 2021 virtual global summit scheduled to hold in South Korea in December.
“In spite of the modest achievements, there is still much to be done to ensure the delivery of NAP 2 before the September 2021 deadline,” Nzegwu said.
She assured that the national secretariat would continue to support the OGP processes at the national and sub national levels.
OGP is a global partnership that brings together government reformers and civil society leaders, to create action plan that makes government more inclusive, responsive and accountable.
