A university don Prof. Charles Ayo, on Sunday urged the Federal Government to harness the country’s resources in order to boost revenue generation for economic sustainability.
Ayo, also the Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Yaba in Lagos State, said in Ota, Ogun state: “There was a time Nigeria was richer than China but now China who happened to be seven times biggest than Nigeria has harness the huge population to become the best nation in the world.’’
“But now, Nigeria looked unto China for importation of growth. We looked unto them for resources to build our roads and Airports,’’ he said.
According to him, Nigeria which is blessed with human and mineral resources can take advantage of its resources and become one of great nations in the world.
He noted that such great nation’s like China and Malaysia harnessed their resources to become one of the best in the world.
Ayo said that the nation has not been able to transform from crude form to refined form rather the country import refined petroleum products at a higher price.
“The government should be able to produce our crude oil in the country and export part to generate revenue for the country,’’ the don said.
He urged the federal government to provide enabling environment for citizens, noting that Nigerians aboard were doing well in their various sphere of life because of the environment.
