Tourism in Tunisia soars by 42%

Tunisia’s tourism revenues soared 42.5 per cent in the first half of 2019 to $692 million from 46.1 per cent ($492.2 million) in the first half of 2018, official figures indicated.

The tourism industry accounts for eight per cent of Tunisia’s gross domestic product.

The numbers were a result of the resumption of tourist flows from traditional sources of France, Germany and Algeria.

Tunisia’s government said the results reflected the success of a safety policy put in place after the terrorist attacks in Tunis and sources in 2015 in which over 55 tourists were killed.
