Fairtrade hits Algeria with trade show

Fairtrade is to hold a new trade show for Algeria and invited investors and interested parties from across the world to participate.
The German trade show specialists dubbed the show, “Agrofood Algeria 2019’’ and would be jointly developed with institutional partners and governmental bodies.
The show would reflect relevant priorities in key Algerian development policies, including the country’s five-year Plan, an initiative that began in 2015 and runs until 2020.
The event is to be held from the 25th to the 27th of November, 2019 in Algiers.
It comes at a time when Algeria is Africa and the Middle East‘s largest importer of food and beverage technology, importing €480 million worth of related goods in 2017. South Africa is the second largest importer in Africa with €331 million in 2017, followed by Egypt with €284 million and Nigeria with €262 million.
The country is also the continent’s second largest food importer, after Egypt but ahead of South Africa.
Agrofood Algeria consists of four sub-events centered on food and beverage technology, confectionery, food ingredients and hospitality.
The event is aimed at increasing sustainable food and beverage production with a focus on the presentation of innovative techniques, recipes and ingredients for processing and packaging.
It is also aimed at increasing self-sufficiency with safe and high-quality food products, and “presenting of gastronomic concepts tailored to the constantly growing Algerian market.”
Fairtrade has been organising international trade fairs in Algeria since the year 2000. This makes the company one of the most experienced organizers of professional trade shows on the Algerian market.
The trade fair experts are aware that Algeria is the largest country in Africa and the most populous in the Maghreb region.
“With a GDP of $188 billion in 2018 and estimated foreign exchange reserves of $85 billion at the end of 2018, Algeria is the economic powerhouse on the African continent,” the company said in a statement.
