Bonga’s capacity hits 150mscf of gas per day

The Managing Director, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Mr Bayo Ojulari, has said that Bonga has produced over 590 billion Standard Cubic Feet (SCF) of gas with the capacity for over 150 million SCF of gas per day.
Ojulari said this during his presentation at the 2nd Edition of the Nigeria International Petroleum Summit in Abuja, theme “How we are using advance technology to deliver safe, economic deep-water projects to provide energy the country need and skill and for Nigerians’’.
Ojulari said that Bonga which has daily production capacity of about 200,000 barrel of oil had produced over 750 million stock tank barrel of oil.
According to him, the Bonga field is located 120km off the shore of Nigeria, in block OML- 118, in water depths ranging from 900 to 1,245 metres, adding that Bonga is Nigeria’s first deep-water oil field which required specialised and complex deep-water technology.
“It has supported local content development in design and fabrication.
The SNEPCo boss said that with the ability for daily production, the company was satisfied with the consistent availability and optimal performance of the vessel which began operation at the Bonga field in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 118.
“Since production began in 2015, SNEPCo has continued evolved. We have focused our fair share of challenges. However, with creativity, continuous improvement and better integration, we have made significant leap forward.
“SNEPCo’s vision is to be the best deep-water business in the world, This means growing our production safely, reliable and at significantly lower cost, as well delivery competitive projects ahead of all our competitors,’’ he said.
Ojulari described the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FFPSO) as a jewel, noting however that SNEPCo’s achievements did not come without their challenges.
“We overcome our challenges with the ingenuity and integrated delivery approach of our staff who work together every day to deliver one of the best assets in the world.
“ I’m proud to say that over 95 per cent of SNEPCo staff are Nigerians and they have distinguished themselves as some of the best in the industry within and outside Nigeria.
SNEPCo’s resounding performance, Ojulari said that the company had been delivered with zero fatality since first oil.
“In 2016 the team also won the Shell CEO HSE Award for disciplined and focused safety culture,’’ he added.
Ojulari said that the Bonga field increased Nigeria’s oil production by 10 per cent when output began in 2005 and has since stimulated the growth of support industries in addition to helping to create the first generation of Nigerian oil and gas engineers with deep-water experience.
