The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has called on the federal government to make policies that would encourage active participation of indigenous engineers in charting a technological revolution for Nigeria.
Mr Chinasa Okolie, President of NSE, Abuja chapter, said that local content could not be developed with direct engagement of indigenous engineers by Nigerian governments.
He condemned the penchant for engagement of foreign engineers in the construction of infrastructure in the country.
The engineer identified “mad rush” for foreign products and services as inimical to technological development, adding that government should rise to the occasion.
“It is a pity that our government lacks the policies to encourage indigenous engineers hence the country becomes dumping ground for substandard goods.
” Many of the goods being imported into Nigeria from China are not sold or used in China because they are substandard, ” he said.
Okolie, who called on indigenous engineers not to relent in their efforts for a technological developed Nigeria, said the country was blessed with quality engineers.
Many of Nigerian roads and economic infrastructure are being constructed by expatriates.
