Workers picket telecom company

Workers in the private telecommunication on Thursday protested the continuous unfair labour treatment by ISON BPO International Limited, ( a telecommunication call centre).
The workers under the aegis of Private Telecommunication and Communication Senior Staff Association of Nigeria ( PTECSSAN) said that the management mistreat and harass them.
Mr Okonu Abdullahi, PTECSSAN General Secretary said the workers were picketing the company because it sacked the branch chairman for fighting for workers’ right.
According to Abdullahi, the management had continued in its unfair labour practices in spite of report to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
”The workers decided to protest because ISON BPO management intimidated them, sack unjustly, poor remuneration, excessive work load and ungodly time shift,” he said.
The union’s scribe said the management was not pleased when the workers changed from the National Union of Postal and Telecommunication Employees to PTECSSAN which led to the sack of two other executive members.
He alleged that there was no provision for health and safety condition at work and that the management was incensitive to public holidays.
”When the branch union raised these issues, they were sacked and even threatened to sack more that is why the workers are protesting,” Abdullahi said.
He said that PTECSSAN would ensure that the right of workers are respected especially with the intervention of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
However, Mr Sandeep Nair, Managing Director of the company did not pick his calls or respond to text messages to defend the allegations.
The company has about 3,000 workers with its heaquarters in Victoria Island and branch in Abeokuta.
