The Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA) has planned to hold its maiden Aba economic and investment summit to showcase the city’s investment opportunities and encourage investment.
The President of the Chamber, Mr Andy Obasi, disclosed this in Aba during a pre-summit media briefing at the Aba Chamber office.
He said that the chamber found organizing the summit necessary because Aba’s condition in the past few years which repelled investors had been changed by Ikpeazu’s administration.
He said that although Igbo people had invested massively across Nigeria, Nigerians from non-Igbo speaking areas were finding it difficult to invest in Aba hence the need to reverse the trend.
Obasi said that the summit would attend to issues responsible for such developments and ensure the trend changed while encouraging Igbo people to invest more in their home.
He noted that the summit seeks to “galvanize energies and resources of all stakeholders from different economic sectors to brainstorm and create a strong plan to reposition businesses in Aba.
He said that the plan would in turn enrich efforts for repositioning Aba as an investment hub for rapid economic development while leveraging on critical investment opportunities of the city.
He noted that it would ensure necessary networking required to harness the economic potentials of Aba to the benefit of all.
Obasi said that in pursuit of a better business environment for Aba business people, ACCIMA recently registered Aba business school to help educate and hone the skills of artisans in the city for better productivity.
He said that the chamber had also formed a League of Associations in Aba to organize artisans in order to ensure they progressed in pursuit of their common goals collectively.
The Senior Special Adviser to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Small and Medium Scale Industries, Mr Chinenye Nwogu said the summit would enable Abia government to announce its budding Enyimba Economic city.
He also said that the Vice-President would visit to commission the SME Share Facility Centre where processing machines for SMEs would be housed.
The Secretary, Abia Think-Tank Association, Dr Ikechi Ajuzieogu said that the identified problems of businesses in Aba needed to be tackled head-on to ensure progress of businesses in the city.
He expressed hope that the Okezie Ikpeazu administration would pay attention to the challenges of Aba business people in order to help them grow their businesses through the provision of enabling environment.
