Mr Nora Mahongo, the Local Deputy Administrator, Luau Municipality in Angola has said the resumption of mineral transportation from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the port of Lobito through Benguela’s railways was boosting the economy of the area.
He made the disclosure over the weekend to Angop in Luau municipality.
Mahongo, said the resumption of mineral transportation was an added value the restart of the operation, paralyzed long time ago.
He further said such economic activity was great advantage to the country taking into account that the expected revenues could contribute to the development of the region.
The inaugural train transporting 50 containers loaded with 1,000 tons of manganese from Congo’s Kisenge, Katanga province, was expected to have arrived Monday in the bordering municipality of Luau, Angola’s Moxico province.
Arrangement was in place for the train’s arrival ceremony due to be witnessed by the Angolan and Congolese Transport ministers, Augusto Tomás and Brain Mashimba, respectively and governor of Moxico province, Manuel Gonçalves Muadumba.
